The
now former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was denied bail by Superior Court Judge Renee Dupuis on Thursday, for
his alleged involvement with the death of 27-year-old semi-pro football player
Odin Lloyd. Let me say that I couldn’t
be happier with this decision.
It’s about time
our justice system starts treating athletes like real people, instead of acting
like they are above the law. Dupuis felt
as if Hernandez may be a flight risk if he was granted bail, but I say that the
guy has been charged with first degree murder so let him sit in jail. It’s pretty clear that the guy was involved
with this murder in some way. Authorities
removed about 15 or 16 bags of evidence from his house.
I also love that
the Patriots decided to release Hernandez, which I thought at first was a bit too
soon, but with Hernandez now gone along with Wes Welker, the Patriots may be
facing a bit of a rebuilding season. Not
to mention the fact that I don’t think that they will be able to use Gronkowski
nearly as much as they have in the past due to all of the surgeries that the TE
has undergone in the offseason.
It’s going to be
interesting to see where the Patriots wind up at the end of the upcoming
season. But I think that Hernandez can
pretty much kiss his NFL career good bye, because despite the fact that he is a
solid player, I’m not sure any team would want to take a chance on him after
this.
